Keeley & Daniel: A DIY, Vintage Elopement at Bridge Club in Raleigh

After over a year of talking about COVID elopements, it almost feels cliché to do so: The couple postpone their big celebration but still commemorate their original wedding date. Their community can’t be there to witness and enjoy the moment, so they make it intimate, focus on themselves, their love and commitment. Whatever else it is, an elopement is unquestionably about the marriage—the coming together of hearts, speaking truths to one another, holding to one another despite the bleak, quasi-dystopian pandemicscape.

Our goal for this Starry Night styled shoot was to create a dreamy nighttime micro-wedding set outside under the stars. We chose a dark navy blue, silver, and gold for our colors to mirror a twinkling night sky. Model bride Gabby glistened in a sparkling wedding gown and an elegant up-do while groom Pyrion looked handsome in a fitted blue suit.

Look almost anywhere in the wedding industry and you’ll see some startling similarities across the board: the people represented are straight, white, and young. In more recent years, especially in the shake-up that was 2020, the heteronormativity and overall beige palette have begun improving, with even the bigger, more traditional outlets showing change – but there’s still a trend towards showing younger couples, a taste of ageism in the wedding industry.
